Any product, to be accepted in Gembird® product range, has to pass testing of Gembird® quality engineers. It is not allowed for OEM suppliers to influence the testing procedure of their products in any way, shape or form.
Once the product is accepted in Gembird® product range, it is not allowed to change any components, chipsets, product package, painting etc unless the change is authorized by the Gembird® quality engineers. If certain components must be changed because of the chipset being phased out, to improve quality or any other reason, a new sample should be first submitted for the testing. Changing specification of the products, downgrading them to save cost, replacement of components without consulting Gembird® quality engineers is strictly forbidden. Suppliers failing to follow this rule will lose their Gembird® supplier status permanently and without any further notice.
Certain purchasing orders can be selected on random basis for quality control before shipment. OEM supplier should provide full support to Gembird® quality engineers to conduct such quality control. Problems found during the above-mentioned inspection should be solved as soon as possible.

Product individual package
Each Gembird®/EnerGenie® product is to be packed in Gembird® or EnerGenie® customized package:
blister: simple heat-sealed blister or the double openable blister, standing on a table, or the clamshell type of the blister
simple brown box (possibly of recycled paper) + color sleeve over the box
color box with window
polybag (i.e. bulk package) etc.
The double blister package or the clamshell should be able to firmly stand on the table and to be hanged. It should be possible to open the blister and close it again without damaging it (so sealing the blister is not needed). The blister should not have too much unused space, it should be reasonably small. We have the requirement to blisters - they should be sealed by the black round plastic staples, see the detailes in this file.
The color box package should be strong and thick enough to keep its form. There should not be too much empty space inside the color box, it should be reasonably small. It is necessary to shrink wrap thecolor box package.
The polybag package should have a strong enough euro hole to hang it. It should be possible to open it and close again without damaging it. Normally polybag package is printed in one color and there is an additional sticker with product short description, bar code and part number (Supplier decides himself to use the sticker on the PE bag or to print products sticker's text on PE bag directly with a paint). A typical polybag package can be found here: www.gmb.nl/production/Gembird-polybag.zip
All types of individual packages should be strong enough to bear vibration and other mechanical load without damage to the product inside the export carton during transportation.
The package artwork is designed by Gembird® designers based on the supplier diecut, however Gembird® requires his own height of package, standardized for each product type of subgroup. Preferable standard sizes are:

It is very important to print the package with exact PANTONE colors. The Pantone colors for each Gembird® product group can be found here: http://www.gmb.nl/production/Gembird-colors.pdf. Note: packaging printed in the wrong color shades, not corresponding to the Gembird® standard, will not be accepted for shipment by quality control! It is recommended to consult the Gembird® design team before the mass production started to make sure the packaging follows the above-mentioned standard.
Each Gembird® package should always have the following design elements:
CE certification sign
ROHS sign , if the purchasing order requires ROHS compliant product
WEEE sign
EAN-13 barcode and part number of the item.
“Made in China” text, if produced in China Note: each part number shown on the purchasing order corresponds to a unique barcode.
Note: Products painted in different colors most often have different part numbers and using the same barcode for them is strictly forbidden.
Note: the EAN-13 barcode on the individual package should always be the same as the first 13 digits of the barcode on the export carton (see below the export carton requirements).
User manual
Supplier should inform Gembird® product manager if his product is normally shipped with a user manual. It is however up to Gembird® product manager to decide whether include or not the manual with the product.
In case that the product is normally supplied with the user manual, supplier should send it to Gembird® product manager in editable file format (such as Microsoft® Word). It is strictly forbidden to supply supplier own manual with his product. The manual has to be customized by Gembird® design team and checked by Gembird® product manager.

Each Gembird® product and some electronic parts of it (such as power adapter) having:
at least 20x10mm of free space on its surface
and if this free space is not visible by usage – e.g. the bottom side of desktop product
excluding compact, portable products in transparent or semi-transparent cases that do not have any hidden non-visible surfaces (such as Bluetooth dongles)
… must have the label with at least the following:
CE certification sign

For some products serial number which should correspond to the barcode number on the export carton (see below the export carton requirements).
Product software contents
Each Gembird® product which requires driver and/or add-on software has to be supplied with a CD or DVD disk, or flash-drive.
Supplier should inform Gembird® product manager if his product is normally shipped with software. It is however up to Gembird® product manager to decide whether include or not the software with the product.
In case that the product is normally supplied with the software, supplier should send it to Gembird® product manager in ZIP archive.
Gembird® product manager will decide if the software has to be customized or amended in Gembird® style. If customization is troublesome to arrange, he can allow supplying of no-name software. In certain cases Gembird® own software has to be included together with the drivers.
It is strictly forbidden to put unnecessary drivers (for example for multiple products or for different chipsets) on the CD. Only those drivers which are needed for the Gembird® product should be supplied.
Supplier should provide all the available drivers, for all kinds of operating systems (such as Windows®, MAC OS, Linux etc.)
Product CD/DVD artwork
CD or DVD disk with software has to be printed with Gembird® artwork. The artwork will be provided to the supplier by Gembird® designers or product manager.
Export carton
Gembird® products individual packages should be packed in export cartons of Gembird® standard style according to the following artwork: http://www.gmb-online.nl/B2B/GMB-CARTON.AI (unless a different OEM style is explicitly required in the purchasing order):
The export cartons have to be:
Strong enough to carry a load of at least six similar cartons placed over it during transportation without any damage (with humidity of 10-40%).
Printed according the above-mentioned artwork using PANTONE BLACK color on the brown carton.
Printing of color box and export carton is allowed only by our certified printing company. Contact designer@gembird.com for the full instructions.
The text and logo on the carton MAY NOT be scaled. Follow the measurements shown here: GMB-CARTON-ROHS+dimensions.pdf. The carton sizes can be various, but the texts and logos must not to be scaled. Preferable carton sizes:

Note: packaging printed in the wrong color shades, not corresponding to the Gembird® standard, will not be accepted for shipment by quality control! It is recommended to consult the Gembird® design team before the mass production started to make sure the packaging follows the above-mentioned standard.
The following information has to be filled in (preferably printed):
Part number
Quantity per carton
Gross weight of the carton
Volume of the carton in cubic feet ("CUFT") or cubic meters, but print "CUM" then
PO (purchasing order) number
Carton number
If the order is ROHS compliant – each export carton has to have the ROHS sign placed above the PO number
If the purchasing order destination is Holland, then each export carton has to have a sticker with the printed unique 31-digit barcode. The stickers have to be printed from a link in the purchasing order.
It is not allowed to use inkjet or dot-matrix printers to print the barcode stickers (only laser-quality printing is accepted). It is highly recommended to strictly follow all instructions in the purchasing order to print the barcode stickers. Barcode stickers ordered by a third party printing companies might be not readable. Supplier will be held responsible for providing wrong or not readable barcode stickers.
It is strictly forbidden to change quantity per export carton. Quantity per carton is encoded inside of the barcode (see below). This is why wrong quantity per carton will make the barcode unusable. Supplier will be held responsible for changing quantity per export carton without permission of Gembird®.
The 31-digit barcode is unique for each carton and can be understood in the following way:
The first 13 digits of this barcode constitute EAN-13 barcode of the product inside.
Digits 14-15 are always “90” and have no meaning.
Digits 16-20 show the quantity per export carton.
Digits 21-25 show the purchasing order number.
Digits 26-31 show the serial numbers inside the package.
If the Gembird® product requires serial numbers (see section Product label above), then the digits 21-31 of the export carton correspond to the first serial number inside the export carton. That means the supplier should make sure that only correct serial numbers are put inside the export carton.
Example: suppose barcode sticker is 8716309037990900010007746000300. In this case the export carton should have 100 products inside, and the serial numbers inside of this carton should be from 07746000300 to 07746000399.
The barcodes should be sticked to the dedicated for them place on export carton in vertical direction. It is not allowed to stick barcodes in any other place on the export carton. The distance from the bottom of carton TO THE BOTTOM OF BARCODE SHOULD BE FROM 3 TO 10 CM.
Supplier has to make sure before the loading that the sea container is clean and dry inside. The Customs in Europe has the right to open the container and check it. If they find some living insects in the container or if the gas level in the container exceeds a certain allowed maximum, the container will be detained. Further it will be processed by special chemical substances to get rid of the dangerous gas and make sure the insects are all dead. Customs detention and chemical processing expenses in such case will be on the account of the supplier.
